Swedish heraldry

[edit]

Fred J, thank you so much for your contributions to WP, such as your contributions to Swedish heraldry! I am working on expanding the article a bit, and I would greatly appreciate your help with finding appropriate sources for inline citations. If you can take a look at the article and add references for anything that sticks out to you, it would be a tremendous help. Tack så mycket! Wilhelm meis (talk) 00:41, 28 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Sundsvall.jpg

[edit]

I have tagged Image:Sundsvall.jpg as {{orphaned fairuse}}. In order for the image to be kept at Wikipedia, it must be included in at least one article. If this image is being used as a link target instead of displayed inline, please add {{not orphan}} to the image description page to prevent it being accidentally marked as orphaned again. Lokal_Profil 16:43, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No worries. Wilhelm meis (talk) 00:01, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Grästorp_City_Arms.png)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Grästorp_City_Arms.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Lokal_Profil 23:12, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free use disputed for Image:Sundsvall.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Sundsvall.jpg. Unfortunately, I think that you have not provided a proper rationale for using this image under "fair use". Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page. Note that the image description page must include the exact name or a link to each article the image is used in and a separate rationale for each one. (If a link is used, automated processes may improperly add the related tag to the image. Please change the fair use template to refer to the exact name, if you see this warning.)

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted after seven days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Lokal_Profil 23:30, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As part of the WP:GA listing process, I have reviwed Raoul Wallenberg though I have also asked for a second opinion on if the article is correctly using WP:Summary Style and WP:Embedded Lists. However, there are some citation issues that still need to be fixed regardless of the outcome of the 2nd opinion, and some queries about entries in the honors/memorials section. Million_Moments (talk) 19:48, 19 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

OK the second opinion agrees with the major edits that are needed. Normally an article is placed on hold if such edits can be made in a week. I'm going to ask you if you think the requested changes can be made in seven days or if you'd need more time than that, in which case the article would be failed and then you could re-nom it when it was done. I know you don't want to see the article failed, but I would have to do so if I judged it wasn't progressing well enough in seven days. Million_Moments (talk) 08:34, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I replied again on the review page. I believe the article is going in the right direction and can be completed in a week, of course the final decision is left to Million Moments. Check out the review page for more details. --Banime (talk) 13:29, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Fred J. I have listed the article as a GA since it satisfies Good article criteria. But however for a future FA status, this won't be enough. You'll have to add and expand more. Also a good copyeditor needs to copyedit this article. Anyway, good work. Hope to see this article as a featured article someday. Thanks, Kensplanet (talk) 07:26, 27 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

due to a software problem the following image which you uploaded was lost on Wikimedia Commons:

I reset the image to a previous version. If you still have this file on your hard disk or if you can recover it from other sources please upload it again. If this image was transferred from a local Wikipedia to Wikimedia Commons it can be even recovered by an admin on the local Wikipedia.

[edit]

As a member of WikiProject Films, you are invited to take part in the project's first questionnaire. It is intended to gauge your participation and views on the project. At the conclusion of the questionnaire, the project's coordinators will use the gathered feedback to find new ways to improve the project and reach out to potential members. The results of the questionnaire will be published in next month's newsletter. If you know of any editors who have edited film articles in the past, please invite them to take part in the questionnaire. Please stop by and take a few minutes to answer the questions so that we can continue to improve our project. Happy editing!

New image project

[edit]

Hi. This little form letter is just a courtesy notice to let you know that a proposal to merge the projects Wikipedia:WikiProject Free images, Wikipedia:WikiProject Fair use, Wikipedia:WikiProject Moving free images to Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia:WikiProject Illustration into the newly formed Wikipedia:WikiProject Images and Media has met with general support at Wikipedia:WikiProject Council/Proposals/Files. Since you're on the rosters of membership in at least one of those projects, I thought you might be interested. Conversation about redirecting those projects is located here. Please participate in that discussion if you have any interest, and if you still have interest in achieving the goals of the original project, we'd love to have you join in. If you aren't interested in either the conversation or the project, please pardon the interruption. :) Thanks. Moonriddengirl (talk) 14:01, 23 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Sweeps invitation

[edit]

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are a member of the GA WikiProject. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! Swedish heraldry source

[edit]

Hello again! I am looking for a source on Swedish heraldry, and I'm not quite sure where to turn. I have found quite a few mentions in en.WP and sv.WP articles of a decision by the Privy Council in 1884 to grant Swedish provinces the rank of Duchy and the right to display the ducal coronet over the landskap arms. I see that at least some of these mentions were contributed by User:Mic, who seems to be long gone. I hope you have better access to sources than I do (since I am now in Japan) and the free time to look into it, or perhaps you know someone who can help. Any other contributions you can make to the article are always appreciated as well. Thank you! Wilhelm_meis (talk) 06:12, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reassessment of Emanuel Swedenborg

[edit]

I have done the GA Reassessment of Emanuel Swedenborg as part of the GA Sweeps project. I have found the article does not meet current GA Criteria. As such I have placed the article on hold pending work that needs to be done to bring it up to current standards. My review is here. I am notifying you as the primary editor of the possibility that the article will be delisted if work is not done in the next week. Please contact me on my talk page if you have any questions. GA reassessment of Swedish literature

[edit]

This article has been reviewed as part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles/Project quality task force in an effort to ensure all listed Good articles continue to meet the Good article criteria. In reviewing the article, I have found there are some issues that may need to be addressed, listed at Talk:Swedish literature/GA1. I will check back in seven days. If these issues are addressed, the article will remain listed as a Good article. Otherwise, it may be delisted (such a decision may be challenged through WP:GAR). If improved after it has been delisted, it may be nominated at WP:GAN. Feel free to drop a message on my talk page if you have any questions, and many thanks for all the hard work that has gone into this article thus far. Karl Knutsson (Bonde)

[edit]

To demonstrate the validity of my claim that Charles VIII is better known, even in English-language sources, as Karl Knutsson (Bonde), please note the search results listed at Talk:Charles VIII of Sweden#Correct Name. Sources know him as Karl Knutsson over Charles at about a 6:1 ratio. Also, please feel free to explore the quality of search results, such as The Cambridge history of Scandinavia (p. 733) or The Catholic encyclopedia (p. 478). Encyclopedia and other reliable sources are split, and many acknowledge both names (as should we), but "Charles VIII" seems to mostly be a relatively recent trend, and Karl Knutsson (Bonde) avoids the problem of the conflicting ordinals. Wilhelm Meis (Quatsch!) 09:49, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Impressive dedication, Wilhelm. I hope you didn't get the impression I disagreed with you because I didn't -- I just like references...
And I still find it important to cite a reference in the article when saying that he is "best known as Karl Knutsson Bonde"; and that such references should be added to ALL the royalties before Eric XIV at least; and it wouldn't hurt to add references to some monarchs after Eric either.
By looking at the logs, it doesn't appear the Charles VII was ever located at the name Karl Knutsson (Bonde). It should not be attributed to ignorance from the original author Mic, but probably just adherence to the original policy on royalties to name them with their ordinal number. Since that policy has changed for some cases, it should be uncontroversial to move the article to the name that the person is best known as, which is Bonde.
While Charles Bonde is uncontroversial, people such as Gustav I of Sweden are more difficult and it is necessary to have convincing sources before moving. I noticed you were involved in discussing the location of Eric of Pomerania too, which also is more controversial. Gustav I of Sweden has actually been located at a different location earlier but was moved because of aforementioned policy. [1]
Again, thanks for your interest in our monarchs.
Fred-J 19:11, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I spent a semester in the Stockholm area studying Swedish/Scandinavian history and culture. It certainly didn't make me an expert, but it did cultivate a respect for Scandinavian history. I agree about needing references. The thing that sparked my interest in how these articles are named was when I found that Eric of Pomerania had been moved to "Eric VII of Denmark" and some of the early Scandinavian kings I was familiar with by names such as "Eric Lamb" and "Eric Menved" were located at Eric III of Denmark and Eric VI of Denmark. Apparently I was mistaken about Karl Knutsson's article ever being at "Karl Knutsson (Bonde)", but I still think that would be the best name for him. I'm not a big fan of calling Karl "Charles", but I won't bat an eye if that's how he's known in most English-language sources. I just don't see it though. All my English-language books that discuss him call him either "Karl Knutsson" or "Karl Knutsson (Bonde)". It seems to me, and maybe you have a different perspective on this, but it seems to me that Gustav Vasa is so widely known as "Gustav Vasa" that it seems odd to drop the byname and adopt the ordinal. It seems to me that the Vasa name itself is quite notable, owing a great deal of its notability to the first king of independent Sweden. It seems to me that it would be rather like dropping Washington from George Washington (while the capital city and an entire state bear the name in his honor). Basically, I don't see the N-O-C convention as properly superceding the common name convention, just clarifying where the common name convention may be insufficient. Any time there is a clear common name, I think we should use it (though in the case of modern monarchs, the ordinals are in their common names). What do you think about it? Kind regards, Wilhelm Meis (Quatsch!) 03:22, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I am currently working on the "Swedish Project" and "Award and Prizes"'s article Nobel Prize. File permission problem with File:Piteå Rådhustorget.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Piteå Rådhustorget.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

[edit]

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in over one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that if you are inactive for a continuous three year period, you will be unable to request return of the administrative user right. This includes inactive time prior to your desysopping if you were desysopped for inactivity and inactive time prior to the change in policy. Inactivity is defined as the absence of edits or logged actions. Until such time as you have been inactive for three years, you may request return of the tools at the bureaucrats' noticeboard. After you have been inactive for three years, you may seek return of the tools only through WP:RFA. Thank you. MBisanz talk 00:20, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:30, 9 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. I was wondering if you would be interested in contributing articles to Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic)? It needs contributors to increase diversity of content from different countries and bring about large scale improvements. The idea at some point will be to host a National Contest related to your country of interest. Thanks. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:15, 21 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 06:09, 6 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
