"אנחנו המפגינים כאן, לא הצלחנו לחלחל לרוב העם. הרוב שותק ולכן אינו משפיע. אומר לכם מדוע הרוב לא כאן. הם לא כאן כי אנחנו לא הצלחנו להתנחל בלבבות של אותו רוב אמיתי שקובע. לא הצלחנו להידבר ואולי בכלל לא ממש רצינו.
"הפכנו את מתיישבי יש"ע לאויבים ובאדנות הוצאנו אותם אל מחוץ לגדר. נצליח רק כשתוגת המפונים תעלה על צהלת המפגנים. ניכסנו לעצמנו את השאיפה לשלום. הרוב יושב בבית ושותק, למרות שהוא רוצה לצאת מעזה בדיוק כמונו. לרוב הקובע לא אכפת ולא צריך להיות אכפת מי יחתום על ההסכם לסיום הסכסוך. כדי לצאת מעזה, הרוב בעם צריך להפסיק לשתוק".
כמו כן אמר איילון, כי הוא מאמין שראש הממשלה רוצה להתקדם בתהליך השלום: "שרון הגיע למסקנה שיש לפנות את כל ההתנחלויות בעזה, ואני מאמין שהוא יכול. אני מאמין שרק מי שמרגיש עצב גדול ביום הפינוי, רק הוא יכול להעבירו בלי שנמצא עצמנו בלב מלחמת אחים.
"אני מאמין שיציאה מעזה היא צעד קטן למדינת ישראל וצעד גדול למדינה דמוקרטית שחיה בשלום עם שכניה. אבל לשם כך הרוב צריך לומר לראש הממשלה, 'אם תתקדם, אנחנו איתך, ואם לאו, לא תהיה ראש ממשלה'".

[edit]Ayalon was commander-in-chief of the Navy. Would that not make him an admiral rather than a general?
